Come on, let’s design an attractive Store/showroom for your business

Designing an attractive store in a developing country like Sri Lanka for any business can be challenging due to limited resources and infrastructure. However, with careful planning and execution, it is possible to create a space that is both inviting and functional. Let’s look at the detail.

1. Understand your target market

The first step in designing an attractive store is to understand your target market. What is their demographic? What are their needs and preferences? Their budgets? It’s important to also study the market your store is catering to and your buyer preferences say convenience over and excellent shop experience. This, would also largely be according to the products and pricing.  For example a high-end product for a quality market would require a superior design and display but a simple product catering to a lower spender could opt for a simple convenient show.

2. Make your store easy to find

Part of designing an attractive store would also be location. Especially in a developing country like Sri Lanka where the end-cost of the product matters, it is important to make your store easy to find. This also means decent quick parking, easy access from the main road and using clear signage. You may also want to consider using online directories and social media to promote your store.

3. Create a welcoming atmosphere.

The atmosphere of your store is just as important as its appearance. Make sure your store is clean, airy and well-maintained. Use lighting and colors to create a warm and inviting atmosphere and perhaps soft music. Provide comfortable seating especially for accompanying elders or reluctant husbands. If you are planning a large variety of items, customers will need to time to browse, a kids play area and snack counters may come in handy.

4. Use effective merchandising techniques

Effective merchandising can help to draw customers into your store and encourage them to make purchases. Use eye-catching displays to showcase your products. Make sure your products are well-organized and easy to find. It is vital that you display prices with the products.

5. Provide good customer service

Good customer service is essential for any business. Train your staff to be friendly and helpful. Engage customer with eye contact and genuine smiles, greeting or chit chat.  Not too much as some customers do not like it.  Make sure your staff is knowledgeable about your products and can answer any questions customers may have.

6. Consider using local materials and craftsmanship.

Using local materials and craftsmanship can help to create a unique and authentic store. This can also help to support the local economy. You could subtly display tiny boards giving the craftsman credit too, this could add a very nice touch.

7. Promote your store through social media and other channels.

Social media cannot be ignored when promoting a store.  A website or Social media platforms with prices and descriptions would greatly aid the customer, sometimes even before visiting your store.  Use social media to share photos of your store and products. You may also want to run ads and participate in local events.

We have thought deeply about the progress of your store when putting together this piece, we believe it will help you design an attractive store that will attract and retain customers.
