Social Media Marketing? Bring your A-game

Building a social media presence is essential for most businesses nowadays, and it is a competitive landscape. Need to promote your product? Use Social media. Need to create brand awareness? Use social media. Need to make your mark in the business world? Use social media. Even startups need social media for recruiting, building their profile for fundraising, building a user base, and many more essential activities. But the social media game is not an easy one to play, and it takes effort to build and maintain a hard-earned status.

There is no perfect game plan to establishing a winning social media status. However there are a few tried and tested methods you can use to optimize your social media. Here are three of them.

  1. Always be active.
Don’t you just love it when a person replies to your comments or DMs immediately? Yes, it gives you a sense of priority. It is the same with everyone. Always reply promptly to your comments and messages.
  2. Be relatable.
People like and follow those who talk and think like them, those who relate to what they’re going through. Pay attention to what’s happening online and offline. Focus your communication through the hype. Try out a meme or two.
  3. Most importantly, be authentic.
We all have seen those fake ads, haven’t we?
“You have just won one million dollars (for doing nothing)!!”
“You have been selected for a foreign tour!!”
Or even those subtle ones like the following?
“Best price in the county, all imported material!”
If you feel like you want to advertise like this, do not. Build a brand, rather than just trying to sell something. People will check you out, and hit the like or follow button, and stay there, when they feel you are authentic and telling them something genuine, even if that may be new or different to them. When you have built a following, those people will be more receptive to your story and your products. Best of all, they will be part of a two-way conversation with you and your brand – what better way to not just talk with, but learn and take inspiration from your most important stakeholders – your customers and potential customers.

Overall, social media is an intricate web of interactions where many may play but only the best will thrive. If you time and play your moves right, you can easily be one of those. Just stick by these three rules and don’t hesitate to engage.
